Meet our Director: Nick Anderson
Originally from Shepherd, Mr. Anderson is the current band director for Elk Rapids Public Schools. Previously he taught at Concord Academy Boyne in Boyne City (2015 - 2017). There he taught general music in grades K, 1st, and 4th, band from 5th - 12th grade, music elective courses including percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, and history of rock and roll. He also taught middle school drama and high school theatre where he produced "Sound of Music" and "Oklahoma". Mr. Anderson was also involved with Belding High School as its Music Paraprofessional and Woodwind Instructor (2013 - 2015).
Mr. Anderson graduated from Central Michigan University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music, a Bachelor of Music Education, and a Masters of Music in Performance (Saxophone). While at CMU, Mr. Anderson performed with the top instrumental ensembles including CMU's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Lab 1 and the Chippewa Marching Band. He also performed with other CMU ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and numerous chamber ensembles. Mr. Anderson was highly involved and still a member with both music fraternities Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. He has been fortunate to have performed at regional and national conferences while being a part of master classes with some of the top saxophonists in the world including Dr. Timothy McAllister (University of Michigan) and Dr. John Sampen (Bowling Green State University). Since moving up to Northwest Michigan, Mr. Anderson has performed with numerous community ensembles that include the Northern Symphonic Winds, Charlevoix City Band, and the Up North Big Band.
Nick is married to his beautiful wife, Stephanie, and have two wonderful daughters, Madeline and Eleanor.
Band Boosters
None of this can happen without the help of our band boosters. Our booster program strives to fulfill the needs of our student musicians and the needs of the entire Elk Rapids band program. They organize in providing meals, volunteering at our MSBOA District 2 Band Festival, fundraising, etc. Meetings are held on the first Thursday every month in the High School Band Room at 7:00 p.m. Invitation is open to all and if you want more information, please contact our band booster president, Sandy Jansen, at [email protected]
